(125) Ah ha! Ta Da!

Ah ha! Ta Da!

No. It's not the name of my new Rock Band...

It's merely a gasp of realisation and a verbal orchestration to announce that Techno-phobe moi has finally worked out how all you clever clogs scribes do that "latest blog roll thingy" and "followers thingy my-jig."

So now I've put them here, and added me wee post birthday self to all your "followers thingy my-jigs"...

I was wondering if you'd all be so kind as to click on the "follow this blog" highlight over there...

down a bit...

bit more...

to the right...

Yeah, that's it...

You've got it...

Lovely. Ta.

(123) Me-me

Me,me,me,me!
I dunno, but this blog seems to be all about me!

And scriptwriting.
Hope yours is going well. Pray do tell in the comments section...

Anyhow, that sexy young bonkers Nun over at Lock and load has me -me'd me thus:-

'When it comes to writing, what do you know you're good at, and what aspect of writing are you worst at? (Procrastination is not permitted as either part of the answer.)'

Well, goodness, gracious, modesty forbids et al, but I actually do think I'm good at
conjuring up a story out of a few words, a scene, or a fog of an idea that barges its way into my otherwise empty brain.

I'm a bit more of a stranger to discipline than I'd like to be (ooh- er, missus, calm down at the back, the discipline of getting down to actual "proper" writing when I can, I mean). I'm not sure I'm au fait with "Lord Structure" and, oh, yeah, I also fink I'm krap at speling...

Others tell me I'm very good at dialogue, my lead characters are well drawn and my plots are exciting and engaging.

They also tell me my structuring can be too loose, my minor characters can sometimes be mere ciphers for the story, and I'm krap at speling...

So, there you go.
I need to work on structure, minor players, discipline, and spelling...

I me-me everybody and anybody who hasn't already been me-me'd. If you haven't got a blog reply in the comments bit, just add your name or pseudonym after your fine words.

Cheers, Sheiky

(122) The Final Escape

We bid a sad farewell to two top cult fantasy character actors from the 60s and 70s.

Patrick McGoohan (1928 - 2009)

After a short illness Patrick McGoohan, the Emmy-winning actor who created and starred in the cult classic television show "The Prisoner," died on Tuesday in Los Angeles . He was 80.

He first found fame as super spy John Drake in the world wide hit TV series "Dangerman" in 1964 which ran for four seasons and countless repeats.
Growing weary of playing Drake, McGoohan pitched to producers the surreal and cerebral "The Prisoner" to give himself a challenge.

The series ran for just 17 episodes in 1967, but was so ahead of its time, its cultural impact remains, McGoohan's Number Six becoming one of the most iconic characters of all time, with his all time cult favorite catchphrase " I am not a number, I am a free man!"

Ricardo Montalban ( 1920 - 2009)

Ricardo Montalban passed away on Wednesday morning at his home, aged 88.
Montalban was already a star in Mexican movies when MGM brought him to Hollywood in 1946 to star in splashy musicals.

He was best known as the mysterious, white-suited proprietor of a certain spooky tropical island, with his cult catchphrase, "I am Mr. Roarke, your host. Welcome to Fantasy Island."
The show, a world wide hit ran from 1978 to 1984, and is still a re-run favourite.

He is also fondly remembered as Star Treks best ever baddie, Khan Noonien Singh, who first tried to steal the Enterprise in the classic Star Trek episode "Space Seed" and then "killed" Spock in "Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan."

R.I.P. guys and thanks for the memories.

(121) Sheiky's new website

Salutations Scribo-peeps!

Just popped in to let you know I've now got a posh, shiny, new scriptwriter web site.

For the big 2009 push.
Well, at least, it's another little shove to help get the push momentum going.

If you'd like to take a peak at the website and let me know what you think of it in the comments section here, I'd be mightily obliged, y'all.

It's over at http://commission-option.synthasite.com/

Cheers!

(120) You're needed...

You're needed...

...to let me know what you think of the new look for the blog...

Tuesday 6 January 2009

(119) 2008 Hi's 'n' Dohs...

So, the 2008 thingy, this blog's first one...

Hi's and Dohs:-

HI's:-

A big hi to all of you! My reason for starting the blog was "E - meet" some fellow scribblers and, good golly, I've met and become friends with plethora of great, friendly, talented Spec Monkeys and "real" scribes in my first year on the web.

So in that respect the blog has been an outstanding success!

Hopefully, it's entertained you a tad along the way...

I haven't installed a counter, (didn't think of it & don't know how!) but according to blogger's default one on the profile page over 2000 peeps who have browsed through have stayed long enough to check out my profile...and many have even returned!

Even got described as insanely personable by a fellow writer...

I've had some nice comments and great emails full of of advice and encouragement and even fan mail for the Contractors .

And I got to meet Michelle & Chip in person.

Also through the blog I've had two script enquiries from real Prod Co's which both flattered and delighted me.

One was for samples of my work to see if I would be right for their specific project.
Wasn't, but they want to keep in touch and possibly develop one of the sample scripts.

The other was for my High Concept Comedy disaster feature.
Ongoing, so watch this space!

I've won a couple of Blogger's competitions courtesy of Lucy and Elinor.
Thanks, girls, still reading my prizes.

I've learnt loads of tips and tricks from all the other blog sites, - check out any of the esteemed blogs on the "All you need to know" lists below.

I've both me-me'd and been me-me'd.
A year ago I didn't even know what a me-me was.

I've entered a few Script comps.

I've got two scripts in the BBc's Writersroom.
Well, in the pile at least...

I've written loads (which is what we're supposed to do) and built up a diverse portfolio.

I've joined Talent Circle and met some new friends there.

I got commissioned for a short Manga script by a record company.

I've become involved in spec TV project with a small team of "real" writers (as in it's their profession), which is very exciting and, touch wood, might go the distance!

I'm developing a full length Theatre play.

I've loadsa possible projects in my bulging "Ideas file".

DOH's:-

Missed Martin's Scribo-meet by being on Holiday.

Crashed 'n' burned on the Red Planet. Again.

Bitched my Pitch for Stella Network/Channel 4 thing.

Son of a Pitch, did it again for the SWF 2009 thing.

The band folded, so the Manga script wasn't made.

*************************************************************************************

All, in all, a great year!

Here's to this one!

What do you think?

(118) Happy New Year 2009 !

HAPPY NEAR YEAR! I HOPE 2009 BRINGS YOU ALL YOU WANT!
